Product Description
Hampden Estate was founded in 1753 and has been distilling rum for almost three centuries in Trelawny Parish, Jamaica, an area historically known as the grand cru of Jamaican rum. In 2009 the estate began ageing its Pure Single Rums, opening a new era for the brand.
The methods are unique and partly secret, and haven’t changed since the 18th century. They’re behind the rum’s distinct, iconic aroma, in particular an extremely high level of esters that comes from a very long, complex process. This 8 Year Old has been aged for eight years in the tropical Jamaican climate, which is said to be equivalent to almost 25 years of maturation in a European climate. It’s bottled at 46% ABV and it’s excellent for sipping and mixology. We’d start with it neat or over ice.
Tasting notes
A genuine, complex profile. The nose is voluptuous and intense, with ripe banana, allspice, dried orange zest and baked apple. The palate has persistent, pleasant notes of ginger, vanilla, dark chocolate, coffee bean, resin and praline. The finish is lingering and enticing, with waxy notes.
